Neutron star · PSR-class pulsar

Simulation controls

Gravitational lensing (GR light bending)
Background grid (shows the warping)
Dipole magnetic field
Light cylinder (when within view)
Pulsar beams
Auto-orbit camera

Drag to orbit, scroll or pinch to zoom. Slow the clock down: at 1× real time a 33 ms pulsar spins 30 times per second.

Live physics (M = 1.4 M☉, R = 12 km)

Pulse profile, one rotation

Pulse as seen from your camera angle: the beam sweeps past once or twice per spin. The marker shows the current phase.

Light is traced along true Schwarzschild null geodesics (u″ + u = 3u²/2 in units of rs), per pixel. Colours are false-colour: the real surface glows in X-rays. Gravitational redshift and Doppler beaming from the star's spin are applied to the surface light.
